Two Baloch youths have gone missing from Karachi, Sindh’s capital, in what their families fear are cases of enforced disappearance. According to reports, Yasir Baloch, a resident of Malir, vanished on the night between February 24 and 25, 2025, while returning home from Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Family sources state that Yasir, son of Sabzal Ali and a Media Sciences graduate student at Benazir Bhutto University, had met his friends in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and left for home around 10:30 pm. However, he never arrived and has remained unreachable since.
His family believes that Yasir has been forcibly disappeared, similar to many other Baloch students in recent years. They have appealed to authorities for his immediate recovery and urged human rights organizations to intervene. In a separate incident, Pakistani forces allegedly detained Sabir, son of Ali Dost, a resident of the Greshag area of Khuzdar, from Lyari, Karachi, earlier this morning. Local sources report that he was taken into custody and moved to an undisclosed location, with no information available about his condition or whereabouts.
Sabir’s family has called for his immediate release and demanded that authorities present him in court if there are any charges against him. They have also urged human rights organizations to take a stand against enforced disappearances and assist in locating missing persons. Enforced disappearances in Balochistan remain a persistent issue, with cases continuing to rise. Human rights activists and international organizations have long accused Pakistani forces and intelligence agencies of involvement in these disappearances and extrajudicial killings of Baloch individuals.
Despite ongoing appeals and protests, the crisis remains unresolved and appears to be worsening, with reports suggesting that three to four cases occur daily.
The families of the missing individuals, alongside activists, continue to demand justice and accountability, calling for an end to the systematic targeting of Baloch youth.
