Taranjit Singh Sandhu Kwatra and Josh Shapiro discussed enhancing economic and tech collaboration.

Vinay Mohan Kwatra met Josh Shapiro in Harrisburg to explore ways to deepen economic and technology cooperation between India and Pennsylvania. During the meeting, the ambassador outlined India’s fast-paced economic growth, pointing to major progress in infrastructure, digital systems, and manufacturing. Governor Shapiro later expressed enthusiasm about expanding the partnership, noting the potential to attract more investment, strengthen the talent pipeline, and create quality jobs for people in both regions.
According to the Embassy of India in Washington DC, the talks focused on using India’s growth momentum to unlock shared opportunities in advanced technology and industrial sectors. The discussion reflects a steadily growing relationship built on strong investments, an active Indian diaspora, and collaboration in areas like IT, life sciences, and manufacturing.
By 2026, both sides remain focused on boosting innovation, encouraging job creation, and increasing two-way investments for sustained growth. India has become an important trade partner for Pennsylvania, with several state-based companies operating in India across sectors such as agriculture, food processing, and chemicals.
At the same time, Indian companies have also contributed significantly to Pennsylvania’s economy, investing over 540 million dollars through more than 18 enterprises. The partnership is further supported by initiatives like the 2020 collaboration between Pennsylvania and the Kutch region of Gujarat, aimed at enhancing economic cooperation.
People-to-people ties also play a key role. Over 200,000 Indian-Americans live in Pennsylvania, while nearly 10,000 Indian students are studying in the state, strengthening academic and cultural exchange. Institutions like the Center for the Advanced Study of India continue to support research and understanding of modern India, reinforcing long-term collaboration.
