Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the presence of five People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels and one official ship near its waters. The ministry also detected four Chinese balloons during the same period. In a post on X, the MND stated, “5 PLAN vessels and 1 official ship operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 4 PRC balloons were detected during this timeframe. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and responded.”

The previous day, the MND had recorded four PLA aircraft, six PLAN ships, and one official ship near Taiwan, noting that one of the four aircraft sorties crossed the median line into Taiwan’s northern ADIZ. In an X post, the MND said, “4 PLA aircraft, 6 PLAN ships and 1 official ship operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. 1 out of 4 sorties crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded.”

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding Taiwan, stating that China would not be allowed to interfere. As commander-in-chief of the armed forces, President Lai pledged to protect the nation and the lives and property of its citizens. He said, “I will certainly safeguard the nation and absolutely not allow Chinese pressure or China's hand to reach into Taiwan.”

President Lai also highlighted that China’s “cross-border pressure” demonstrates that Beijing’s authority does not extend to Taiwan, confirming that Taiwan is not part of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). Citing the recent visit of China-born Japanese lawmaker Hei Seki—who has been sanctioned by China and barred from entering the PRC—Lai said the visit shows that the Republic of China (ROC), Taiwan’s official name, and the PRC are not subordinate to one another.
