Solar Delivers Indigenous Nagastra-2 Loitering Munitions to Indian Army for Anti-Tank Operations

Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd., based in Nagpur, is delivering its indigenous Nagastra-2 anti-tank loitering munition system to the Indian Army. The system is designed to support precision strikes against armoured targets and features surveillance cameras for both daytime and nighttime operations.
Nagastra-2 carries a 4 kg tandem shaped-charge warhead designed to penetrate armour protection of up to 650 mm of Rolled Homogeneous Armour (RHA). It has an operational range of up to 25 km in recover-and-reuse mode and 50 km in fire-and-forget mode, with an endurance of up to 60 minutes.
A notable feature is its Electronic Counter-Countermeasures (ECCM) capability, which is intended to improve the system’s resilience against electronic warfare threats, including communication jamming, GPS interference and spoofing. These capabilities are designed to help the munition operate in electronically contested environments.
According to Solar Defence and Aerospace, Nagastra-2 successfully completed technical trials at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in August 2026. The company stated that users witnessed the system’s operational performance and compliance with ECCM requirements. The development adds to India's efforts to expand domestic defence manufacturing and equip its armed forces with locally developed technologies.
The Indian Army placed an order in 2025 for approximately 450 Nagastra-1R loitering munitions from Solar Defence and Aerospace Ltd., according to the company. The Nagastra-1R features a reusable launcher system, a 360-degree gimbal camera and an optional thermal camera for night missions. The company has also highlighted the system’s encrypted video and telemetry communications, precision targeting capability with a reported circular error probable (CEP) of two metres, and indigenous content exceeding 80%. According to the company, the system has undergone testing at several locations, including Ladakh and Babina near Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.
