Whether embarking on an international adventure or enjoying a quick local getaway, Singaporeans have the privilege of travelling without the hassle of visa concerns, thanks to the strength of their passport.
For the second consecutive year, Singapore has claimed the top spot as the world’s most powerful passport according to the 2025 Henley Passport Index. This index ranks passports based on the number of destinations their holders can visit without requiring a visa. The Henley Passport Index, compiled by Henley & Partners, evaluates 199 passports and 227 travel destinations. As of January 8, 2025, Singapore ranks first, offering visa-free access to 195 destinations.
In January 2024, Singapore shared the top spot with countries like France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain, all with access to 194 destinations. By mid-2024, Singapore had secured the exclusive number one position, with access to 195 destinations.
Japan holds the second spot in this year's ranking, with visa-free access to 193 destinations, while Finland, France, Italy, Germany, South Korea, and Spain are tied for third place with 192 destinations each. Malaysia ranks 12th this year, offering visa-free access to 183 destinations, holding steady from last year when they had access to 182 destinations.
At the bottom of the 2025 index, Afghanistan has the least powerful passport, with only 26 visa-free destinations, followed by Syria with 27, and Iraq with 31. These countries maintained their positions from the previous year.
