Prayagraj: Water sports and leisure rides introduced as part of the Smart City development, inaugurated by DC

The Divisional Commissioner (DC) of Prayagraj, Saumya Agarwal, on Wednesday inaugurated a range of water sports and recreational water rides in the city as part of the Smart City initiative. The facilities, which were previously introduced during the last Mahakumbh, will continue to operate for the benefit of residents and tourists. The DC stated that the new attractions include floating restaurants, banana boats, and motorboats, aimed at enhancing the experience of visitors. She added that the project is a key component of the Smart City programme and is designed to make Prayagraj more tourist-friendly.
According to Prayagraj Smart City Limited, the Smart Cities Mission is a nationwide urban development initiative launched by the Government of India to modernize 100 cities across the country by making them sustainable, citizen-centric, and technologically advanced. Under this mission, the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) oversees the execution of projects under the Area-Based Development and Pan-City components, with the goal of promoting economic growth and improving the quality of life through local development and the use of smart technologies. Prayagraj is witnessing a massive influx of devotees for the Magh Mela 2026, particularly at the Triveni Sangam, where pilgrims from across India have gathered for the sacred 'Shahi Snan' ritual. The holy site marks the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers.
Commissioner Agarwal confirmed that the first auspicious bathing ceremony on Paush Purnima was conducted smoothly, with nearly 31 lakh devotees participating without any major issues. She praised the administration for its effective arrangements and assured that all facilities are functioning efficiently as the fair officially begins. The Magh Mela, held annually at Prayagraj, is one of India’s largest religious gatherings. Every fourth year, it becomes the Kumbh Mela, and every twelfth year it transforms into the Maha Kumbh Mela, drawing millions of pilgrims from around the world.
