On Wednesday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar at the Delhi airport after his return from Saudi Arabia. The meeting, also attended by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, was convened to review the situation following the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, South Kashmir. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, targeted a popular tourist spot, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 people, mostly tourists. Several others were injured, and the victims included two foreign nationals—one from the UAE and one from Nepal—as well as two local residents.

The attack shocked the nation, marking one of the most gruesome incidents in recent times targeting tourists in the region. In response to the tragedy, Modi decided to cut his Saudi trip short and returned to India on Wednesday morning. Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah rushed to Srinagar on Tuesday evening to oversee the security situation and ensure prompt measures were taken.

Prime Minister Modi condemned the attack and vowed that those responsible for the heinous act would not be spared. He assured the nation that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. The government’s swift response highlights its commitment to safeguarding citizens and tourists, as well as addressing the security challenges faced by the region.
