Pakistan Army Reacts to Operation Sindoor Film, Calls It 'Tragedy and Comedy'

Pakistan's military has reacted sharply to a film based on India's Operation Sindoor, with Army spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry criticising the portrayal of the 2025 India-Pakistan military confrontation in a late-night social media post. The reaction followed the release of Declassified: Operation Sindoor, a documentary-style production examining India's military operation launched after the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack.
Chaudhry's response, posted at around 2am, dismissed the film's narrative and described it as a combination of “tragedy and comedy.” He questioned the credibility of the account presented in the production and suggested that it reflected India's version of events rather than a complete picture of the confrontation.
Operation Sindoor was launched by India on May 7, 2025, following the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 people were killed. India said its strikes targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and were intended to hit groups responsible for attacks against India. The documentary focuses on India's planning and execution of the operation and includes accounts from Indian military officials and other individuals connected with the campaign. Its release has provided a detailed public narrative of how New Delhi says the operation was planned and carried out.
Pakistan has consistently disputed India's account of the confrontation and has presented its own claims about the military engagement. The two countries have disagreed over several aspects of the conflict, including the damage caused by strikes, military losses and the effectiveness of their respective operations.
The Pakistani Army's latest reaction underlines how sensitive the subject remains more than a year after Operation Sindoor. While the military confrontation has ended, both sides continue to contest the narrative surrounding the events through official statements, media reports and public messaging.
The controversy also highlights the growing importance of information warfare in modern conflicts. Documentaries and other media productions can shape public understanding of military operations long after the actual fighting has stopped. With the Pakistani military now publicly challenging the film's portrayal, the debate over Operation Sindoor is likely to continue as further accounts and assessments of the 2025 confrontation emerge.
