Masked Men Ransack Abhishek Banerjee's Kolkata Office, TMC Leader Alleges BJP Role

A group of masked men allegedly broke into and ransacked Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s office on Camac Street in Kolkata in the early hours of Thursday, September 3, leading to a fresh political confrontation in West Bengal. According to reports, the intruders entered the office during the early morning hours and allegedly damaged furniture and other property before taking away electronic equipment. CCTV footage reportedly captured several masked and helmeted individuals inside the premises and later leaving the office with items.

Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the Lok Sabha MP from Diamond Harbour, alleged that the attack was carried out by people associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He accused the attackers of targeting his office and questioned the response of the Kolkata Police. The TMC leader shared CCTV visuals of the incident and called for an investigation into the identities of those involved. He also alleged that people present at the office were attacked during the incident.

Kolkata Police have detained six people for questioning in connection with the alleged break-in. Investigators are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to determine how the suspects entered the premises, what property was taken or damaged and whether the incident had a political motive. The BJP has denied any involvement in the incident and rejected the allegations made by Banerjee. The party has questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident and called for the matter to be properly investigated.

The alleged attack comes shortly after another dispute at the same Camac Street premises. On August 27, Kolkata Municipal Corporation officials, accompanied by police personnel, had visited the office to remove a large TMC billboard that authorities said was unauthorised. The move led to a confrontation between civic officials, police personnel and TMC workers.

Cases were subsequently registered over the confrontation, with several people arrested in connection with the incident. Banerjee and other TMC leaders were also questioned by Kolkata Police as part of the investigation. The latest incident has added to tensions between the TMC and BJP in West Bengal. With both sides making competing claims, the police investigation and CCTV evidence are expected to be crucial in establishing what happened and identifying those responsible. The investigation is currently underway, and the allegations made by the political parties have not yet been conclusively established by authorities.
