On Monday, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Netherlands Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp in New Delhi to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation, focusing on areas such as trade, investment, innovation, water management, and exploring new opportunities in the semiconductor sector.

Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in meeting Veldkamp and emphasized the growing ties between India and the Netherlands across various fields. On social media, he shared, "Delighted to meet FM Caspar Veldkamp @ministerBZ of Netherlands this evening. We discussed our expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investments, innovation, water, agriculture, health, security, and people-to-people connections."

He further mentioned exploring opportunities in areas such as semiconductors, green hydrogen, education, and talent exchange, while also addressing global strategic developments and the importance of multipolarity. Veldkamp, currently on a two-day official visit to India, was warmly welcomed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that the visit would enhance the multifaceted relationship between the two countries.

Earlier, Jaishankar had welcomed Veldkamp to India, expressing anticipation for their upcoming discussions. Veldkamp, in his own post, also highlighted the significance of strengthening cooperation between the two nations, especially considering the current geopolitical landscape. India and the Netherlands established diplomatic relations in 1947, with both countries celebrating 75 years of ties in 2022. The nations maintain regular high-level engagements, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently congratulated the Netherlands' new government, led by Prime Minister Dick Schoof, on July 2, 2024.
