Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf arrived in Muscat on Monday as part of an official visit to Oman, where they held talks with senior Omani officials on regional issues, bilateral ties and developments related to the Iran-US memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi welcomed the Iranian delegation during their visit. The meeting was attended by senior officials from both countries, including Iran’s ambassador to Oman and representatives from the Omani Foreign Ministry. During the discussions, officials reviewed the longstanding cooperation and friendly relations between Oman and Iran. Both sides also exchanged views on the current regional situation and explored ways to strengthen diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting stability and reducing tensions.

A key focus of the talks was the recent Iran-US MoU, particularly issues concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Omani officials highlighted the importance of maintaining security, ensuring freedom of navigation and supporting peaceful solutions in accordance with international law. Al Busaidi said the discussions with the Iranian delegation were constructive and emphasized the need to maintain safe passage for commercial vessels through the strategic waterway. He also reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to international law and regional stability.

The visit comes after Iran and the United States agreed to establish a direct communication channel aimed at preventing misunderstandings and avoiding potential incidents in the Strait of Hormuz. The arrangement was announced by mediators Qatar and Pakistan following the first round of high-level discussions under a 14-point MoU.

According to the statement, the communication mechanism is intended to help ensure safe maritime movement and reduce the risk of confrontation in one of the world’s most important shipping routes. The Strait of Hormuz remains a crucial global energy corridor, and any disruption in the region can have wider implications for international trade and security. The latest diplomatic engagement reflects ongoing efforts by regional actors to encourage dialogue and maintain stability.
