Fresh uncertainty surrounds diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States, with no date set for the next round of talks after initial negotiations failed to yield progress.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said discussions are currently focused on finalising a framework for future engagement, indicating that both sides remain far from a concrete agreement. He stressed that scheduling further talks without a clear understanding could risk another breakdown and escalate tensions.

The stalled negotiations were part of broader efforts, reportedly facilitated through regional channels including Pakistan, to ease tensions amid an ongoing conflict environment. However, the absence of consensus highlights deep divisions over key issues such as security guarantees and long-term commitments.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has warned that the ceasefire with Iran may not be extended if a comprehensive deal is not reached soon, even hinting at the possibility of renewed military action. At the same time, he expressed cautious optimism that an agreement could still be achieved.

Khatibzadeh also criticised Washington’s messaging, describing it as inconsistent and at times contradictory, further complicating diplomatic progress. His remarks underscore Tehran’s cautious approach as it seeks clearer commitments before moving forward.

The developments reflect the fragile state of diplomacy in the Middle East, where ongoing conflict dynamics and mistrust between key players continue to hinder efforts toward a lasting resolution.
