Indian Tourist Killed as Two Helicopters Collide Near Mount Everest in Nepal; Several Injured

An Indian tourist was killed and several others were injured after two helicopters collided in Nepal’s Mount Everest region on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. The accident occurred near Pheriche in the Solukhumbu district, an important stop for trekkers travelling towards Everest Base Camp. According to preliminary reports, the helicopters involved in the collision belonged to Fishtail Air and Air Dynasty. The aircraft reportedly collided while approaching the landing area, resulting in casualties among passengers and crew members.
Among those injured were reportedly a New Zealand national and a Nepali pilot. Emergency assistance was arranged following the accident, and the injured were taken for medical treatment. The Indian tourist's death has raised concerns among travellers and tourism operators, particularly given the importance of helicopter services in Nepal's mountainous regions.
Pheriche, located at an altitude of approximately 4,200 metres, is a popular stop along the Everest Base Camp trekking route. Helicopters are frequently used in the area to transport tourists, deliver essential supplies and evacuate trekkers facing medical emergencies. Flying in the Himalayan region presents significant challenges for pilots due to high altitude, unpredictable weather, strong winds and limited landing spaces. Operating multiple helicopters around the same landing site also requires careful coordination and communication.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including the aircraft's flight movements, landing procedures and communication between pilots. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been officially established. The incident has once again highlighted aviation safety concerns in Nepal, a major international destination for adventure tourism and Himalayan expeditions. Further details regarding the identities of the victims, the condition of the injured and the investigation findings are awaited.
