The Indian Army's Battle Axe Division, part of the Konark Corps, conducted night tank exercises in Rajasthan’s desert on April 5, 2025. Titled “Precision in the Dark,” the drill aimed to strengthen the tank crews' ability to detect and eliminate targets in complete darkness—an increasingly vital capability in modern combat, especially in difficult terrains.

Known as the Desert Corps, the Konark Corps is tasked with defending India’s western borders and has a strong tradition of preparing for critical missions in extreme environments. The recent exercise featured complex tank manoeuvres and accurate strikes on mock enemy positions. Dramatic visuals captured tanks operating under low-light conditions, with bursts of gunfire lighting up the night—reflecting the Army’s dedication to staying ahead in desert warfare.

The Battle Axe Division, named after the historic World War II Operation Battleaxe, has transformed into a state-of-the-art armoured unit. Its emphasis on night-time combat marks a strategic shift toward multi-domain warfare that values stealth and precision. Defence analysts see such drills as vital for responding to emerging threats along the western frontier, where desert operations require both advanced skills and strong mental resilience. This exercise highlights the Indian Army’s ability to evolve with modern warfare demands while securing its borders effectively.
