IAF Jaguar Aircraft Crashes Near Jamnagar; One Pilot Killed, Inquiry Ordered

New Delhi, April 3 : A two-seater Jaguar aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed during a night mission shortly after taking off from Jamnagar Airfield, the IAF reported on Thursday. According to the IAF's Media Coordination Centre, the aircraft encountered a technical malfunction mid-flight, forcing the pilots to eject to prevent damage to the airfield and surrounding populated areas. Unfortunately, one pilot succumbed to injuries sustained during ejection, while the second pilot is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jamnagar.
Expressing deep sorrow, the IAF stated, “We deeply regret the loss of life and stand with the bereaved family.” A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to investigate the cause of the crash and determine the nature of the technical failure. This incident follows a similar Jaguar aircraft crash on March 7 near Ambala in Haryana. That aircraft, which had taken off from the Ambala Air Force base for a routine evening sortie, suffered a system malfunction mid-flight. The pilot successfully maneuvered the aircraft away from inhabited areas before ejecting safely.
The IAF has launched an inquiry into both crashes to determine the causes and prevent future incidents. Jaguar aircraft have been a crucial part of the IAF’s fleet, primarily used for ground attack and reconnaissance missions. However, recent crashes have raised concerns about their operational safety and maintenance. The IAF is actively reviewing its aircraft fleet to ensure the safety of its pilots and maintain operational efficiency.
