The Indian Air Force (IAF) held a full-dress rehearsal at Hindon Air Force Station ahead of the Air Force Day parade scheduled for October 8. The rehearsal served as the final run-through for the celebrations marking the 94th anniversary of the Indian Air Force. Air Force Day is observed every year on October 8 to commemorate the establishment of the IAF in 1932. The occasion is marked by ceremonial events attended by the Chief of the Air Staff and senior officers, along with air displays showcasing the force's capabilities.

The Indian Air Force was initially established in 1932 as an auxiliary force of the Royal Air Force. Its first operational squadron was raised in 1933. Following India's independence, the force underwent a major restructuring as personnel strength was reduced and several units were reorganised. Plans to expand the Royal Indian Air Force were also drawn up in the years following World War II. Several squadrons transitioned to newer aircraft, with units moving from Spitfires to Tempest fighters as part of the modernisation process.

The Partition of India in 1947 brought further changes. Some units were disbanded or transferred to the newly established Royal Pakistan Air Force, while the Indian force continued to reorganise amid the conflict that followed independence. Air Headquarters was subsequently established in New Delhi to coordinate the IAF's expanding operations.

Over the decades, the Indian Air Force has taken part in several major military and humanitarian operations, including Operation Vijay, Operation Meghdoot, Operation Cactus and Operation Poomalai. These missions have contributed to the force's reputation for operational readiness and adaptability. Today, the IAF remains a key component of India's national security architecture. Its expanding fleet, modern combat platforms, advanced surveillance systems and growing technological capabilities have strengthened its ability to respond to a wide range of security challenges.

Beyond combat operations, the force also plays an important role in disaster relief, evacuation and humanitarian assistance. Regular training exercises and cooperation with foreign air forces further enhance interoperability and contribute to India's broader defence partnerships. The October 8 celebrations will therefore not only commemorate the IAF's long history but also highlight its continuing transformation into a modern, technology-driven force focused on protecting India's airspace and supporting national security objectives.
