As the Lunar New Year marks a time of celebration and fresh beginnings, one restaurant has shared unexpected news. Elfuego, a halal-certified European restaurant under the local Western food chain Collin’s, announced on Instagram (Jan 28) that it will be closing its only outlet at Jewel Changi Airport. After serving customers for "many memorable years," the restaurant will officially cease operations on February 28, with last orders at 9:30 PM.
"We are deeply grateful for the love and support from all of you, our amazing customers and community," the post read. The restaurant also invited guests to visit “one last time” before the final closure. The announcement left many loyal patrons saddened, with several expressing their disappointment in the comments. One customer lamented the lack of quality halal steak and fine dining options in Singapore, while another hoped the restaurant would reopen at a new location.
Elfuego first opened on April 11, 2019, during Jewel Changi Airport’s preview launch. Helmed by head chef Joseph Loh, who previously led Collin’s Cambodia, the restaurant specialized in European cuisine. It briefly had a second outlet at VivoCity, which opened in November 2023 but quietly closed a few months later. So far, Elfuego has not confirmed any plans for a reopening, and AsiaOne has reached out for further details.
Despite the closure, Jewel Changi Airport will welcome nearly 30 new shopping and dining outlets this year. Food lovers can look forward to Cafe Kitsune, Surrey Hills, Bookmagol, and SugarBelly, while athleisure brands like Palladium, Salomon, and Wilson Sporting Goods will also debut. Additionally, the much-anticipated Nintendo pop-up store is set to return.
