Elon Musk announced on Thursday that Grok 3, his AI chatbot and competitor to ChatGPT, is nearly ready for release. Speaking via video call at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, he revealed that Grok 3 is in its final stages of development and should be available within a couple of weeks.
According to Musk, Grok 3's reasoning capabilities surpass all currently available AI models. "In the tests we’ve conducted so far, Grok 3 is outperforming anything that has been released, to our knowledge. That’s a good sign," he said.
Musk, who co-founded OpenAI before parting ways, established xAI to compete with major players like Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google’s Alphabet. In a bold move on Monday, a consortium of investors led by Musk offered $97.4 billion to acquire OpenAI's nonprofit assets. This comes amid Musk’s legal battle against OpenAI, where he is trying to prevent the company from transitioning into a fully for-profit entity. He argues that OpenAI’s shift away from its nonprofit origins is excessive.
Beyond AI, Musk also weighed in on US government spending, suggesting that cutting $1 trillion could lead to economic growth of 4-5% without inflation from 2025 to 2026. He believes reducing government expenditure while increasing the production of "real useful goods and services" would have a positive economic impact.
During the summit, UAE AI Minister Omar Al Olama announced a partnership with Musk on an ambitious transportation project called "Dubai Loop", which Musk described as akin to a wormhole. However, details about the project were not disclosed.
When discussing global politics, Musk criticized the US approach to foreign affairs, suggesting that America has been "pushy" and should adopt a less interventionist stance. "In general, we should leave other countries to their own business," he stated.
His remarks came as former US President Donald Trump stirred controversy in the Middle East with his idea to resettle Palestinians in Gaza and transform the area into a luxury destination, calling it the "Riviera of the Middle East". This proposal has sparked strong reactions across the Arab world.
