Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team and former BJP MP, has received a death threat from the group ‘ISIS Kashmir’ in the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. As reported by India Today, the threat was sent via email and contained just three chilling words: “I kill you.”

News agency ANI cited a statement from Gambhir’s office confirming that he contacted Delhi Police and lodged a formal complaint, requesting enhanced security for his family. “Gautam Gambhir, former BJP MP and now head coach of the Indian cricket team, received a threat from 'ISIS Kashmir'. He filed a complaint on Wednesday with Delhi Police seeking an FIR and protection for his family,” the statement said.

This isn’t the first instance of such threats against Gambhir. In November 2021, while serving as an MP, he received a similar email threat. Following the deadly Pahalgam attack, which resulted in several fatalities, Gambhir was one of the earliest sports figures to speak out. On X, he posted, “Praying for the families of the deceased. Those responsible for this will pay. India will strike.”

Gambhir had recently returned from a family vacation in France and has kept a low profile since India’s Champions Trophy victory in March. With IPL 2025 currently in progress, national coaches typically use this period to take a break. Gambhir succeeded Rahul Dravid as head coach of Team India in July last year.
