Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir faced intense trolling on social media after India defeated West Indies to secure a spot in the T20 World Cup semifinals on Sunday. Amir had earlier claimed that India would not make it to the semifinals and remained firm in his belief even before the clash against West Indies, predicting an Indian defeat.

Sanju Samson delivered a sensational unbeaten 97 off 50 balls to guide India to a five-wicket win in what was effectively a virtual quarterfinal. Chasing 196, India stumbled early but Samson’s heroics ensured their passage to the last four. Netizens were quick to highlight Amir’s failed prediction, trolling the former pacer after India’s emphatic performance.

Earlier, during a discussion on the show Haarna Mana Hai on Geo News, Amir had remarked that it did not matter whether Pakistan qualified for the semifinals because India would not. He had also predicted India would lose to South Africa in their first Super 8 match. Though his co-panelists jokingly dubbed him an “astrologer,” his forecast for the India–West Indies game proved incorrect.

In the match, West Indies posted a strong 195 for 4 after being put in to bat, building on a solid base from Roston Chase, followed by aggressive late knocks from Rovman Powell (34* off 19) and Jason Holder (37* off 22). India chased down the target, reaching 199 for 5 in 19.2 overs at a packed Eden Gardens, where over 65,000 fans witnessed Samson’s match-winning innings. India will now take on England in the semifinals at Wankhede Stadium on March 5.
