Five Vehicles in Rahul Gandhi's Convoy Collide With Ambulance on UP Expressway

Five vehicles travelling as part of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s convoy were involved in a collision with an ambulance on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, October 26, 2026, according to media reports. Gandhi was reported to be safe, while several people were reportedly injured in the accident.
The collision took place in the Haliyapur area of Sultanpur district as Gandhi was travelling from Lucknow towards Sultanpur. Initial reports indicated that the vehicles involved were moving behind the Congress leader’s car, which was not reported to have been involved in the collision. The incident disrupted the movement of the convoy, and reports said that Congress workers and security personnel were among those injured. However, details about the exact number of injured people and the severity of their injuries were not immediately consistent across initial accounts.
Gandhi had arrived at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport earlier in the day before beginning his journey to Sultanpur. He was scheduled to appear before a special MP-MLA court in connection with a defamation case dating back to 2018 over remarks concerning Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety on the Purvanchal Expressway, particularly when multiple vehicles travel together at high speeds. Authorities are expected to establish the sequence of events that led to the collision and determine the circumstances surrounding the involvement of the ambulance. Further details regarding the injured people, damage to the vehicles and any official investigation were awaited at the time of reporting.
