EAM S. Jaishankar Congratulates US on 250th Independence Anniversary, Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Bilateral Ties

X/@DrSJaishankarExternal Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Saturday conveyed his greetings to the United States as the country marked the 250th anniversary of its Independence. Extending his wishes to the US administration and its citizens, he also reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthening the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
In a message shared on X, Jaishankar addressed US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the American government, and the people of the United States. He expressed optimism about continuing close cooperation to deepen the long-standing strategic relationship between India and the US. "Best wishes to @SecRubio, the Government and people of the United States of America on the 250th anniversary of their Independence. Look forward to working together to advance our Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership," the minister posted.
The greetings came as the United States celebrated a landmark moment in its history. US President Donald Trump officially proclaimed July 4, 2026, as the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. In his proclamation, he called on Americans to commemorate the occasion with pride while honouring the nation's history, achievements, and democratic values.
The proclamation also reflected on the country's journey since its founding and outlined Trump's vision for what he described as a "new American Golden Age." On the same day, the President signed pardons for six individuals who had been prosecuted during the previous Biden administration before travelling to South Dakota to deliver Independence Eve remarks at Mount Rushmore.
The celebrations have also highlighted the growing partnership between India and the United States. Earlier this month, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor participated in a special event in Hyderabad commemorating America's 250th Independence anniversary. The event brought together business leaders, innovators, artists, and musicians from both India and the United States. Sharing his experience on X, Ambassador Gor described the celebrations as a reflection of the deep friendship between the two countries. He said the gathering showcased 250 years of American innovation while reinforcing the enduring partnership between New Delhi and Washington.
The ambassador also praised the relationship between President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that the trust shared by the two leaders has opened new opportunities for cooperation. According to him, the current phase of India-US relations has the potential to influence global developments for decades to come.
Economic cooperation continues to gain momentum. Negotiators from both countries are reportedly in the final stages of concluding the proposed India-US bilateral trade agreement, with only a small portion of the legal framework left to be finalized. Once completed, the agreement is expected to further strengthen trade and investment ties between the world's largest and fifth-largest economies.
