EAM Jaishankar discusses India's peacekeeping contributions in a meeting with the UN Under-Secretary-General.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, in New Delhi, reaffirming India’s strong commitment to UN Peacekeeping and multilateralism. During his visit, Lacroix also met Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh on Tuesday, where they reviewed India’s contributions to UN Peacekeeping. Their discussions focused on enhancing the effectiveness of peace operations, ensuring the safety of peacekeepers, and expanding India’s role in global peace efforts.
Lacroix also visited the National Defence College (NDC), where he interacted with the Commandant and faculty. The Ministry of Defence highlighted the visit in a post on X, stating that the objective was to strengthen interactions at the senior leadership level. On Wednesday, Jaishankar and Lacroix also discussed multilateralism in today’s world. Following the meeting, Jaishankar posted on X, expressing his appreciation for the long-standing partnership between India and UN Peacekeeping.
In a press conference in Delhi, Lacroix addressed the role of women in peacekeeping, emphasizing its importance for the effectiveness of UN missions. The UN in India also shared a post on X, stating that the ‘Women in Peacekeeping’ conference was an opportunity to discuss efforts to increase women’s representation in leadership roles. They acknowledged India’s dedication to this cause, which Jaishankar reiterated during his discussions. Lacroix expressed his gratitude to India for its steadfast support of UN Peacekeeping and paid tribute to Indian peacekeepers who lost their lives in service.
