DGP Harmeet Singh awarded the Assam Police Sishu Mitra Awards 2025 at a ceremony held in Guwahati.

Assam DGP Harmeet Singh presented the Assam Police Sishu Mitra Awards 2025 on Friday at a function organised at the Assam Police Institute in Ulubari, Guwahati. The awards were conferred on police personnel ranging from the rank of Inspector General of Police to Sub-Inspector in recognition of their outstanding service in protecting children’s rights.

Addressing the gathering, Harmeet Singh stated that the Chief Minister of Assam has articulated a strong vision to safeguard children from all forms of violence. In line with this vision, the Assam Police, through the Sishu Mitra Programme, has been making continuous efforts to build the capacity of its personnel to handle child-related cases with compassion and sensitivity. He added that the awards, being presented for the third consecutive year, are meant to motivate and honour officers who consistently demonstrate exceptional commitment toward ensuring justice for children.

According to an official release, the Assam Police Sishu Mitra Programme is being implemented in alignment with the Chief Minister’s goal of eliminating crimes against children and guaranteeing justice for every child. The programme focuses on equipping police personnel across the state with the necessary skills and knowledge to comply with child rights laws and to ensure swift and effective justice for children facing crime and vulnerability. Assam Police CPRO Rajib Saikia stated that UNICEF and UTSAH Child Rights Organisation, a prominent child rights organisation based in Assam, are providing technical assistance for the successful implementation of the programme.

The Assam Police presented Special Recognition Awards to individuals from key stakeholder departments for their vital contributions to strengthening child protection and promoting child rights. Partha Pratim Mazumdar, Secretary of the Women and Child Development Department, was honoured for facilitating support from the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India, which helped advance the initiative to establish child-friendly corners in police stations across the state. Dr. Raktim Tamuli, a forensic expert, received recognition for his critical support in forensic evidence, while psychologist and counsellor Dr. Mythili Hazarika was acknowledged for her consistent and timely counselling services to child victims. The jury panel comprised eminent artist Purnima Pathak Saikia, educationist Dr. Rakhi Kalita Moral, senior officials of the Assam Police, and UNICEF’s Head for Assam and the North East, Dr. Madhulika Jonathan, who were also present at the event.
