Although police claim overall crime has fallen, street crime continued to seriously endanger Karachi residents in 2025. According to Dawn, more than 64,000 street crime cases were recorded during the year, and over 70 people lost their lives in related incidents. Official records based on registered FIRs show 64,323 street crime cases, including robbery, phone snatching, and vehicle theft or hijacking. However, the true number is believed to be much higher because many victims either avoid reporting crimes or are discouraged from filing complaints.

Police data indicates street crime fell from 71,105 cases in 2024 to 64,323 in 2025, a reduction of 6,782 incidents. Deaths linked to these crimes also dropped, with 70 fatalities and 290 injuries reported up to the first week of December 2025, compared to 99 deaths and 400 injuries the previous year. The number of mobile phones stolen at gunpoint declined from 19,353 in 2024 to 17,706 in 2025. Vehicle-related crimes also decreased: 6,683 vehicles were hijacked in 2025, including 302 cars and 6,381 motorcycles, down from 8,370 in 2024, while reported vehicle thefts fell from 43,382 to 39,934.

Despite these figures, criminologist Zoha Waseem of the University of Warwick cautioned that comparing data from only two years is not enough to determine genuine improvements in public safety. She argued that crime trends should be assessed over at least five to ten years to establish whether real progress has been made or whether the impression of safety has simply been created. Waseem also emphasized that many crimes remain unreported due to public reluctance to engage with the police, and noted the absence of credible research showing improved public confidence or satisfaction with law enforcement performance. According to her, only a consistent and long-term decline in crime would meaningfully demonstrate success.
