Delhi-NCR Rain Update: Severe Waterlogging Reported, Gurugram Issues WFH Advisory as Rain Continues

Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the region. The fresh spell of rain came after intense showers on Monday that affected normal life in Delhi, Gurugram and other parts of the National Capital Region. Several roads in Delhi were inundated following the downpour, with knee-deep water reported in some areas. The waterlogging slowed traffic movement and created difficulties for commuters during the morning hours. Low-lying roads and stretches already prone to flooding were among the worst affected.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast more rainfall across Delhi-NCR, with moderate rain likely at many places and the possibility of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may also accompany the showers. In Gurugram, authorities have issued a work-from-home advisory for Tuesday in view of the weather conditions. The District Disaster Management Authority has asked offices and institutions to facilitate remote working to reduce traffic pressure on roads and minimise inconvenience to employees.

The advisory followed widespread waterlogging and traffic congestion in Gurugram after Monday's heavy rainfall. Several important roads and intersections were affected, leaving commuters stuck for long periods. The administration is also using the reduced traffic movement to facilitate drainage and other emergency work in affected areas.

The continuing rain has also raised concerns for commuters travelling between Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Traffic conditions can change quickly when heavy showers hit the region, particularly on roads near underpasses and other low-lying stretches. Delhi Airport has also advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport, as adverse weather conditions can affect flight operations and travel times.

Weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled through the day, with more showers possible across the national capital and neighbouring districts. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during intense rainfall and follow updates issued by the IMD and local authorities.

The latest spell of rain once again highlights the challenges Delhi-NCR faces during periods of intense monsoon rainfall, when even a few hours of heavy showers can lead to waterlogging, traffic congestion and widespread disruption.
