Two people were killed and 23 others injured after a tourist sleeper bus overturned near Jhandewalan Temple in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area early Wednesday, according to officials. The bus was travelling from Jaipur to Fatehpuri in Sadar Bazar with around 30 passengers onboard when the accident occurred.

One of the deceased has been identified as Shehbaj Alam (30), a resident of Dhampur in Uttar Pradesh. The identity of the second victim, believed to be between 25 and 26 years old, is yet to be confirmed. The driver, Pankaj Kumar (26) from Alwar in Rajasthan, has been detained and is currently undergoing treatment at Lady Hardinge Medical College.

Police said a PCR call was received at around 1:05 AM at Karol Bagh police station, reporting that a bus had overturned and several passengers were trapped. The vehicle, which has a seating capacity of about 70, reportedly lost control and flipped onto its side. Soon after, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Karol Bagh, along with night patrolling teams and Link Picket staff, rushed to the spot. On arrival, they found passengers trapped inside the overturned bus.

Constable Rohit stopped a passing JCB, and with the help of local residents, the bus was carefully lifted and stabilized using cement blocks. A rescue operation was immediately carried out. All injured passengers were shifted to nearby hospitals. Twelve were taken to RML Hospital, where two later succumbed to their injuries, while ten were admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and one to Lady Hardinge Medical College. Sub-Inspector Trilok is investigating the incident, and further details are awaited.
