A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is underway at Parliament House, chaired by Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Saturday. The Prime Minister will also lead a Cabinet meeting to review actions taken by various ministries and departments, and later address the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).

Earlier, on April 1, Narendra Modi chaired a special CCS meeting to discuss further steps in light of the ongoing West Asia conflict. The Cabinet Secretary provided updates on measures ensuring the supply of petroleum products, especially LNG and LPG, as well as adequate power availability. The Prime Minister reviewed the availability of essential goods for citizens, including fertilisers, and discussed steps to ensure sufficient supply for both Kharif and Rabi seasons.

Tensions in West Asia escalated after a joint US-Israel strike on February 28 targeted Iran, resulting in the death of its Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, along with other senior officials, triggering a strong response from Tehran. The government assessed the short-, medium-, and long-term global economic impact of the conflict, including its implications for India, and discussed both immediate and long-term countermeasures.

A detailed review was conducted on the availability of essentials such as food, energy, and fuel. The impact on farmers and fertiliser demand for the Kharif season was also evaluated, with assurances that existing stockpiles and alternative sourcing strategies would maintain supply and food security. It was confirmed that sufficient coal reserves at power plants would prevent any electricity shortages across the country.
