BSF states that Bangladesh's media reports about Hadi's killers crossing the border are "false and fabricated."

The Border Security Force (BSF) has strongly denied reports in some Bangladeshi media outlets claiming that two suspects in the murder of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi entered India through the Haluaghat border in Bangladesh. The BSF called these reports "false, fabricated, and misleading," stating that there is no evidence to support such claims.
BSF Meghalaya chief, Inspector General OP Upadhyay, told ANI on Monday that no arrests or interceptions have occurred in the Meghalaya sector and that there has been no illegal cross-border movement. He emphasized that the allegations are baseless and reiterated that even the Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has not reported any such incident.
Upadhyay also noted inconsistencies in Bangladeshi media reports. While an IG-rank officer had earlier said no evidence existed of the suspects crossing the border, a DIG-level officer later made contradictory statements. Meghalaya Police have denied apprehending the suspects, further confirming the reports are incorrect. The BSF highlighted the implausibility of the claims, pointing out that the alleged crossing point is nearly 300 km from Dhaka, an area under heavy CCTV surveillance and checkpoints, making the alleged escape highly unlikely.
Bangladeshi media had reported that suspects Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh fled to India through the Haluaghat border with local assistance. Sharif Osman Hadi, 32, was critically injured by a gunshot to the head during an election campaign in Dhaka on December 12 and later died on December 18 in Singapore after being airlifted for specialized treatment.
