The Belgian government is closely following the case of fugitive Indian businessman Mehul Choksi, giving it significant attention, according to David Jordens, Spokesperson and Head of Service for social media and press at Belgium's Federal Public Service (FPS) Foreign Affairs. Addressing Choksi’s possible presence in Belgium, Jordens stated, "I can confirm that the Federal Public Service (FPS) Foreign Affairs is aware of this case and considers it highly important. However, we do not comment on individual cases. Additionally, this matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Public Service Justice."

His statement suggests that while Belgium remains engaged with the situation, the primary authority over the case lies with the justice department. He also assured that FPS Foreign Affairs continues to monitor developments closely. However, no further details were provided regarding Choksi’s current location, reaffirming that Belgian authorities remain informed of key updates.

Previously, Antigua & Barbuda's Foreign Minister, E.P. Chet Greene, clarified Choksi’s status, stating that he had left the island for medical treatment but remains a citizen of Antigua & Barbuda. Speaking to ANI, Greene said, "Mehul Choksi is not in Antigua; I have been informed that he left for medical treatment abroad. However, he remains an Antiguan citizen. Our governments are collaborating on this matter, respecting democratic traditions and the rule of law. The case is under legal review, and until a decision is made, there is nothing further to add."

Choksi, along with his nephew Nirav Modi, is wanted by Indian authorities for his alleged involvement in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud, in which they are accused of defrauding the bank of over ₹14,000 crore. Greene emphasized that both the Indian and Antiguan governments continue to cooperate, ensuring legal processes and democratic principles are upheld.
