Bangladesh Suspends Visa-on-Arrival for All Countries Until February 15

The government of Bangladesh has temporarily suspended the Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) facility for citizens of all countries until February 15, according to official sources. The suspension, which took effect recently, means that foreign nationals who were previously eligible to receive a visa upon arrival in Bangladesh must now obtain a visa in advance from a Bangladeshi embassy or diplomatic mission before travelling.
Officials have informed Bangladesh’s overseas missions about the decision and advised travellers to complete visa formalities ahead of their journey to avoid inconvenience at ports of entry. The restriction applies universally, including to countries that previously enjoyed visa-on-arrival privileges.
Although the government has not issued a detailed public explanation for the move, the suspension comes at a time of heightened administrative and security considerations in the country. Observers suggest the decision is part of broader efforts to strengthen border management and regulate foreign entry during a sensitive period.
Travelers planning to visit Bangladesh within the suspension period are encouraged to contact the nearest Bangladeshi embassy or high commission for updated visa requirements and processing timelines. The Visa-on-Arrival facility is expected to resume after February 15, subject to further government review.
