Ukraine has initiated a fresh offensive in Russia’s Kursk region, according to a statement from the Russian defence ministry. The ministry confirmed that efforts to counter the Ukrainian attack groups are actively underway. Ukrainian officials have also suggested that a significant military operation is taking place, indicating a surge in hostilities.

This new offensive comes nearly a year after Ukraine first launched an incursion into the Kursk region in August of the previous year. During that initial offensive, Ukrainian forces successfully seized a portion of territory, marking a notable advance into Russian-held land.

However, in the months since, Russian forces have made substantial progress in regaining lost ground. While they have pushed Ukrainian forces back in several areas, they have yet to fully expel them from the region. The ongoing conflict in Kursk remains fluid, with both sides engaged in fierce military actions as the battle for control of this strategically important area continues.
