President Joe Biden has stated that a ceasefire in Gaza, along with the release of hostages, is nearing completion, and his administration is working diligently to finalize the agreement.
Palestinian officials have confirmed that the terms of the deal are being finalized, while Israeli authorities have indicated that discussions are at an advanced stage, with an agreement possible within hours or days.
Under the proposed deal, Israel has agreed to release 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, including approximately 190 individuals who have served sentences of 15 years or more. In return, Hamas will release 34 hostages.
According to the agreement, Hamas would release three hostages on the first day, after which Israel would begin withdrawing troops from populated areas in Gaza. Seven days later, Hamas would release an additional four hostages, and Israel would allow displaced residents in southern Gaza to return to the northern region via the coastal road.
The deal also includes provisions for Israeli forces to remain stationed in the Philadelphi Corridor and maintain an 800-meter buffer zone along Gaza’s eastern and northern borders during the initial 42-day phase of the agreement.
