India’s leading car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, has officially revealed its highly anticipated e-Vitara electric SUV at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The e-Vitara, based on the brand's eVX concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2023, marks Maruti’s first electric vehicle designed exclusively for electric powertrains. Initially unveiled in Milan, Italy, in 2024, the e-Vitara is set to launch in India in March 2025.
The SUV will compete with rivals such as the Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, MG Windsor EV, and Hyundai Creta EV, the latter scheduled for a January 2025 release. True to its roots, the production version of the e-Vitara closely resembles the eVX concept, featuring bold design elements and a slightly refined silhouette.
Premium Cabin and Features: The e-Vitara's interior boasts a sophisticated dual-tone black and tan theme, with soft-touch materials enhancing its premium appeal. The dashboard houses a free-standing panel combining the touchscreen and instrument cluster, along with physical controls on the central console for added convenience.
Key highlights include a flat-bottom steering wheel, rotary gear selector, electronic parking brake, and a 360-degree camera. Advanced connectivity features, such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Harman-sourced audio system, ambient lighting, and over 60 connected car features, are also on offer. Other luxury additions include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. Safety is prioritized with seven airbags, a Level 2 ADAS suite, and a split rear seat with 20-degree recline.
Maruti’s EV Charging Infrastructure: To support its EV launch, Maruti Suzuki is investing in a comprehensive charging ecosystem. This includes home charging solutions and a nationwide fast-charging network spanning over 100 cities. The company plans to equip more than 1,500 dealerships across 1,000 cities with charging infrastructure.
Shared Platform and Battery Options: Developed in collaboration with Toyota, the e-Vitara is built on a new skateboard platform, allowing for a flat floor to accommodate the battery pack. Toyota is expected to introduce its own version of the SUV, potentially named the Urban Cruiser HyRyder EV.
The e-Vitara will be available with two battery options: a 49 kWh pack for entry-level trims and a larger 61 kWh pack for premium variants. The higher trims are expected to deliver a range exceeding 500 km on a single charge and include an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system.
With its innovative design, premium features, and robust charging network, the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is poised to set new benchmarks in India’s electric SUV segment.
