President-elect Donald Trump has announced his intention to appoint actors Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, and Jon Voight as "special ambassadors" to Hollywood, tasked with revitalizing the U.S. film industry and fostering a "new golden age" of filmmaking.
In a statement on Truth Social, Trump expressed his confidence in the trio, calling them "very talented people" who would serve as his "eyes and ears" in Hollywood. The initiative aims to encourage studios and creators to continue producing content in California, which Trump claims has lost significant business to foreign markets over the past four years.
“It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone as Special Ambassadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California,” Trump wrote. “They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood…BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! This will mark the return of the Golden Age of Hollywood, just as we will revive the greatness of the United States of America.”
While specific responsibilities for the actors remain unclear, Gibson, 69, responded positively despite learning about the appointment through Trump’s public statement. “I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can,” Gibson said in a statement.
The "Mad Max" star, who lost his home in the recent Los Angeles wildfires, added humorously, “Any chance the position comes with an Ambassador’s residence?”
Gibson publicly endorsed Trump shortly before the November election, joining Stallone and Voight in their vocal support for the president-elect. Stallone, 78, introduced Trump during his post-election victory speech at Mar-a-Lago, describing him as the “second George Washington.” The "Rocky" star added, “Without him, you can imagine what the world would look like.”
Voight, 86, a longtime Trump supporter, previously called the former president the “greatest since Abraham Lincoln.” Trump’s announcement has sparked curiosity about the potential impact of these appointments on Hollywood’s future. Whether the acting legends can influence the industry remains to be seen, but their involvement reflects Trump’s determination to bolster America’s cultural and economic landscape.
