Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Vantara in Jamnagar was an emotional and awe-inspiring experience as he engaged closely with rescued wildlife—high-fiving a lion, feeding leopard cubs, and playing with rare animal species. Vantara, located in Gujarat’s Jamnagar, is among the world's largest wildlife rescue and conservation centers. Spearheaded by Anant Ambani under Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the facility is home to over 150,000 rescued animals from more than 2,000 species, offering them a safe haven for rehabilitation and protection.
During his visit, PM Modi had heartwarming interactions with an Asiatic Lion cub, a rare Clouded Leopard cub, and a White Lion cub born after its mother’s rescue. He also observed the center’s crucial Caracal breeding program, aimed at preserving this elusive species. Witnessing the advanced medical care at Vantara, he saw an MRI being conducted on an Asiatic Lion and a life-saving surgery performed on a leopard injured in a highway accident.
A Rare Wildlife Encounter: Beyond these moments, the Prime Minister met and interacted with an astonishing variety of rescued animals. He spent time with Golden Tigers, Snow Leopards, and four Snow Tiger brothers saved from a circus. His visit also brought him face-to-face with chimpanzees, an orangutan, an Okapi, as well as submerged hippopotamuses and crocodiles.
As he strolled through the vast sanctuary, he walked among grazing zebras, hand-fed a giraffe, and nurtured a rhino calf that had lost its mother. He even came across a massive python, a rare two-headed snake, and a two-headed turtle—an encounter that highlighted the diversity of life Vantara protects.
Exploring the World’s Largest Elephant Hospital: PM Modi also toured Vantara’s world-class wildlife hospital, equipped with specialized facilities for anesthesia, cardiology, nephrology, endoscopy, and dentistry. At the world’s largest elephant hospital, he learned about an innovative hydrotherapy pool designed to help elephants recover from arthritis and foot ailments, improving their mobility and well-being.
Throughout his visit, the Prime Minister engaged with doctors, caregivers, and staff, acknowledging their dedication to providing a second chance at life for these rescued animals. His journey through Vantara was a testament to India's commitment to wildlife conservation and compassionate care.
