The BJP on Wednesday appointed former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and national secretary Om Prakash Dhankar as central observers for the election of its Delhi legislature party leader, who will be the next chief minister of the national capital. The legislature party is set to convene in the evening to select its leader amid growing anticipation over the BJP’s final choice. The decision to appoint Prasad and Dhankar as observers was taken by the party’s Parliamentary Board, which met earlier in the day at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence to deliberate on the matter.
This marks a significant moment for the BJP as it returns to power in Delhi after nearly 27 years. The newly elected legislative team consists of a mix of first-time MLAs and experienced leaders, making the choice for the top post both crucial and competitive. The selected leader will meet Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at Raj Niwas to formally stake a claim to form the new government.
Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing for the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to take place at Ramleela Ground on Thursday afternoon. The event is expected to witness a massive turnout of around 50,000 attendees, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleagues, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states. The grand ceremony will mark the BJP’s return to governance in Delhi and is likely to showcase the party’s vision for the capital.
In the recently concluded elections, the BJP secured a commanding victory by winning 48 out of the 70 assembly seats, paving the way for a significant political shift in Delhi’s governance. With the party now firmly in control, all eyes are on the leadership selection, which will determine the future course of action for the new government.
