The Indian Army’s Assam Regiment has won a prestigious Gold Medal at Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2026, held in Wales, United Kingdom, from October 2 to October 12. The achievement highlights the regiment’s physical endurance, tactical expertise and ability to operate effectively under demanding conditions.

The Indian contingent competed against more than 100 teams from around the world in the internationally recognised military patrolling exercise. It emerged among the 10 teams awarded Gold Medals, demonstrating strong leadership, coordination and determination throughout the competition. Announcing the achievement on social media platform X, the Indian Army praised the troops for their outstanding performance, highlighting the discipline, resilience and teamwork that helped them secure the top honour.

The Army described the victory as a reflection of the soldiers’ rigorous training, battlefield skills and commitment to excellence. It also emphasised the spirit of perseverance that enabled the contingent to stand out in a highly competitive international event. Organised by the British Army, Exercise Cambrian Patrol is regarded as one of the world’s most challenging military patrolling competitions. It evaluates participating teams on their operational capabilities, physical fitness, tactical judgement and ability to perform under pressure.

The exercise typically involves approximately 48 hours of demanding activity across difficult and mountainous terrain. Participants must complete a series of military tasks, including reconnaissance, land navigation, casualty evacuation, tactical planning and combat-related drills, while adhering to strict time limits and operational requirements.

For the Indian Army contingent, the competition provided an opportunity to demonstrate its fieldcraft, preparedness and ability to make decisions in challenging situations. Coordinated teamwork and mental resilience are essential in such exercises, where success depends on both individual competence and collective performance.

The Assam Regiment’s achievement also reflects the Indian Army’s broader emphasis on professional training, operational readiness and adaptability. International military exercises provide a platform for soldiers to test their skills against demanding standards and demonstrate their capabilities alongside personnel from other countries.

The victory has also been associated with the spirit of “Jai Se Vijay”, symbolising the determination, courage and commitment to excellence that define the Indian Army’s warrior ethos. By securing gold at Cambrian Patrol 2026, the Assam Regiment has added another notable achievement to India’s participation in international military competitions. Its performance underlines the importance of endurance, discipline and tactical proficiency in meeting complex operational challenges.
