The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) has introduced a ₹500-crore Technology Adoption Fund (TAF) to accelerate the growth of India's space technology sector. The initiative aims to help Indian companies transform their early-stage space technologies into commercially viable products.
By offering partial funding to non-government entities (NGEs), the fund will support the transition of innovative concepts into market-ready solutions. One of its key objectives is to reduce India's dependence on imported space technologies by strengthening domestic research and development (R&D) and encouraging deeper collaboration between the government and private sector players.
IN-SPACe chairman Pawan Goenka highlighted that the fund will cover up to 60% of project costs for startups and MSMEs and 40% for larger industries, with a maximum funding limit of ₹25 crore per project. He emphasized that the fund is designed to bridge the gap between innovation and commercialization, helping companies refine their technologies, optimize production, and meet market demands in India and beyond.
The TAF is expected to fuel advancements in new space products, intellectual property creation, and job growth, driving India's space sector forward. The fund is open to all eligible NGEs and companies that can demonstrate strong commercial potential for their innovations.
A K Bhatt, Director General of the Indian Space Association (ISpA), welcomed the initiative, stating that private space startups are playing a crucial role in India's growing presence in the global space race. However, he pointed out that financial support from government-backed institutions is vital to help these startups move from concept to commercialization. He called the TAF a game-changer in accelerating space tech development.
Beyond financial backing, the initiative will also offer technical guidance and mentorship to help companies navigate the challenges of product development. This holistic support system aims to ensure that promising ideas not only take shape but also reach the market efficiently. With the launch of the Technology Adoption Fund, IN-SPACe is taking a major step toward strengthening India's role in the global space industry while fostering a thriving ecosystem for space technology innovation.
