Zelensky Set for White House Talks as Ukraine Seeks Stronger US Support Against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to meet US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday in a high-profile visit aimed at reinforcing Washington's support for Ukraine as the war with Russia continues. The meeting comes at a crucial time, with Ukraine facing intensified Russian missile and drone attacks while diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain stalled. Zelensky is expected to press for continued military assistance, stronger air defence capabilities, and greater strategic cooperation with the United States.
According to officials familiar with the preparations, the Ukrainian leader hopes to secure fresh commitments from the Trump administration, particularly on the supply and joint production of Patriot air defence systems and other critical defence equipment. Ukraine has repeatedly stressed that enhanced air defence remains essential to protect its cities and civilian infrastructure from ongoing Russian strikes. The visit also reflects a noticeable shift in relations between Trump and Zelensky. Their ties have been strained in the past, but recent interactions suggest a more cooperative approach as both sides seek to strengthen defence collaboration amid changing battlefield dynamics.
Apart from the White House meeting, Zelensky is also expected to engage with US lawmakers during his visit to discuss bipartisan support for Ukraine and the future of sanctions targeting Russia. Fresh legislation aimed at increasing economic pressure on Moscow is under consideration in Washington, making the timing of the visit particularly significant. The outcome of the talks will be closely watched by European allies and NATO partners, as any new US commitments could influence Ukraine's military strategy and the broader international response to the conflict.
While no major announcements have been confirmed ahead of the meeting, analysts believe the discussions could shape the next phase of US-Ukraine cooperation, particularly in defence, security, and long-term military assistance. As the Russia-Ukraine war enters another critical period, today's White House talks are expected to play an important role in determining the future direction of American support for Kyiv.
