Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) protesters clashed with police on Tuesday and broke barricades outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi while protesting the mob lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth killed in Bangladesh over alleged blasphemy. Heavy security was deployed to control the situation as demonstrators attempted to march toward the mission but were stopped by multi-layered police and paramilitary cordons.

Members of the VHP, Bajrang Dal, and Sarbo Bharatiya Hindi Bangali Sangathan gathered near the Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus Metro Station, raising slogans demanding justice and protection for Hindus in Bangladesh. Tensions escalated when the crowd pushed against barricades, chanting slogans such as “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and calling for an end to violence against Hindus. Some protesters claimed that Hindus were under threat and urged authorities to act against the killing. The protest was part of a series of demonstrations across India condemning violence against minorities in Bangladesh. West Bengal Congress leader Ashutosh Chatterjee criticized attempts to politicize the issue and called on the External Affairs Minister to intervene diplomatically.

Amid rising tensions, Bangladesh suspended consular and visa services in New Delhi and Agartala, citing security concerns. The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry summoned the Indian High Commissioner and expressed serious concern over attacks and protests near its diplomatic missions, including incidents in New Delhi and Siliguri. It condemned what it described as intimidation and urged India to ensure the safety of Bangladeshi diplomatic establishments.

India rejected claims of inadequate security, stating that the protest in New Delhi was brief and posed no threat. The controversy follows the killing of 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh on December 18, an incident that has sparked widespread outrage and renewed international concern over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh.
