A woman lost her life after suffering severe burn injuries in a transformer explosion in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district, following which local residents blocked the Kasia-Padrauna road demanding compensation for the victim’s family, officials said. As per the district administration, the incident took place a few days ago when an electricity department transformer suddenly exploded, causing a fire in which four members of a family were injured. One of the injured women later died during treatment, leading to anger among villagers and triggering protests.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Vaibhav Mishra told ANI that the situation was brought under control after police and administration officials reached the spot and spoke with the protesting residents. “Several days ago, an electricity department transformer burst, resulting in a fire. Four members of a family sustained burn injuries, and one person later died. Following this, villagers blocked the road in protest. The police and district administration intervened, spoke with them, and the road was cleared,” Mishra said.

In another incident in Uttar Pradesh, a major fire broke out at Himalayan Cold Storage in Lucknow’s Chinhat area on Sunday. Fire department teams were immediately dispatched after receiving information about the blaze. According to officials, the security guard noticed heavy smoke coming from the facility and informed the owner, who then contacted the police. Emergency teams, including firefighters, reached the location soon after.

A local resident told ANI that the cause of the fire at the cold storage facility was not immediately known. He said the guard spotted smoke and alerted the owner, who called the emergency helpline number 112, following which police and fire personnel arrived. The cold storage facility, which earlier mainly stored potatoes, now reportedly contains various other products, including green chillies and pulses, according to locals.
