Beijing: Typhoon Bavi has weakened after making landfall in eastern China, but the storm continues to bring strong winds, heavy rainfall and disruption across several regions, prompting authorities to maintain emergency measures. The storm weakened from typhoon strength into a tropical storm after reaching China’s Zhejiang province. However, weather officials warned that the system still carried enough power to cause flooding, waterlogging and hazardous conditions as it moved inland.

Heavy rain affected parts of eastern and northern China, with several areas recording intense downpours. Authorities cautioned residents about possible flash floods, landslides and travel disruptions, particularly in low-lying regions and areas near rivers. Before and after the storm’s arrival, local governments took precautionary measures, including evacuations in vulnerable coastal communities. Emergency teams were deployed to assist residents, clear damaged roads and respond to weather-related incidents.

The storm also disrupted transportation services in affected areas. Some flights were cancelled, while railway operations and road travel faced delays due to strong winds and poor weather conditions. Officials advised people to avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improved.

In coastal areas of Zhejiang province, strong winds damaged infrastructure, uprooted trees and affected local communities. Residents reported fallen trees and temporary disruptions caused by the storm’s powerful gusts. Although Typhoon Bavi has weakened, meteorological authorities said the threat has not completely disappeared. Experts noted that weakened tropical systems can still produce dangerous rainfall, sometimes causing severe flooding even after wind speeds decline.

China’s weather agencies continue to monitor the storm’s movement and have urged local authorities and residents to remain alert. Emergency services are focusing on reducing risks, protecting communities and restoring normal conditions in areas affected by the storm. Typhoon Bavi is the latest weather event to test China’s disaster preparedness systems, highlighting the growing need for early warning measures and rapid emergency response during extreme weather events.
