The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has joined hands with Karmayogi Bharat to train more than 1.54 lakh Adi Karmayogi Volunteers (AKVs) through the iGOT Karmayogi platform, in a move aimed at strengthening grassroots governance and improving access to government welfare schemes in tribal communities. The two organisations signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 13 to establish a dedicated Tribal Affairs Capacity Building Platform under the iGOT Karmayogi framework.

The initiative is part of the government's Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, which seeks to strengthen community leadership and improve the implementation of development programmes in tribal-dominated areas. Under the programme, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs aims to build a network of more than 1.54 lakh volunteers and strengthen over 76,000 Adi Sewa Kendras (ASKs). These village-level institutions are expected to help residents access information about government schemes, understand eligibility requirements and connect with relevant public services.

According to figures reported on the programme's portal, 1,22,072 volunteers and 60,507 Adi Sewa Kendras had been registered at the time of the announcement. The dedicated iGOT platform will provide mobile-friendly training modules covering tribal welfare schemes, volunteer responsibilities and public service delivery. The programme will also include assessments and certification to evaluate participants' learning.

Karmayogi Bharat will be responsible for hosting and maintaining the digital platform, onboarding learners, providing technical support and monitoring training progress. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs will identify participants, develop course content and coordinate implementation with state authorities.

The initiative will combine digital learning with classroom-based training. A three-day in-person programme is planned through State Administrative Training Institutes in coordination with state tribal welfare departments. Maharashtra, Odisha, Goa and Tripura have been identified as priority states for completing training by October 31, 2026, while the broader training exercise is expected to be completed across states by December 31, 2026.

The programme is expected to help volunteers guide tribal families seeking information about welfare benefits, assist with application procedures and improve communication between communities and government departments. The partnership forms part of Mission Karmayogi, the government's capacity-building initiative focused on improving public administration through competency-based learning. By extending structured training to grassroots volunteers, the programme aims to strengthen local institutions and make government services more accessible to tribal communities.
