Tencent on Sunday launched a new tool to integrate its WeChat messaging platform with the OpenClaw AI agent, strengthening its position in China’s growing AI agent market. The new software, named ClawBot, will appear as a contact within WeChat, enabling the app’s more than 1 billion monthly active users to interact directly with OpenClaw. Through the messaging interface, users can send and receive commands to control the AI agent, which can perform tasks like file transfers and sending emails.

This move comes as OpenClaw, an open-source AI agent, has recently gained significant attention, with users eager to experiment with its capabilities. The rising popularity of AI agents has prompted tech companies to explore commercial opportunities, despite government warnings about potential security risks. Tencent’s integration builds on its recent AI agent suite launch, which includes QClaw for individual users, Lighthouse for developers, and WorkBuddy for enterprise solutions.

Other Chinese tech giants are also advancing rapidly in AI. Last week, Alibaba introduced Wukong, an AI platform for enterprises that coordinates multiple agents to manage tasks like document editing and meeting transcription. Soon after, Baidu unveiled a series of OpenClaw-based AI agents across desktop, cloud, mobile, and smart-home platforms, intensifying the competition in China’s AI landscape.
