Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has requested the central government to approve the construction of 20 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 for the state, along with funding for various other projects, including proposed Metro Rail corridors.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Reddy met with Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Manohar Lal Khattar, and asked for the allocation of one lakh solar pumps under the PM Kusum scheme to ensure a steady supply of irrigation water to tribal farmers in Telangana.
Reddy highlighted that Telangana was the first state to join PMAY 2.0 and has already prepared detailed plans and data for the construction of the homes. He also mentioned that the detailed project reports (DPRs) for the first five Metro Rail corridors, covering a distance of 76.4 km out of a total of six corridors, have been submitted to the Centre. He urged Khattar to approve the projects and allocate Rs 24,269 crore for their funding through a joint venture between the state and central governments.
In addition, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the Musi River Rejuvenation project and requested Rs 10,000 crore in central assistance for the construction of canals, box drains, and sewage treatment plants along a 55 km stretch of the river to prevent pollution.
Reddy also informed Khattar about a Comprehensive Sewerage Master Plan (CSMP) costing Rs 17,212 crore for developing a sewerage network in Hyderabad and 27 surrounding urban areas.
Khattar praised the Chief Minister for successfully attracting investments worth Rs 1.78 trillion to the state. Reddy shared that while India aims to become a $5 trillion economy, Telangana is also striving to reach a $1 trillion economy. Khattar was in Hyderabad on Friday night and conducted a review meeting with state officials.
