Tejashwi Yadav Warns of Statewide Protest if Cases Against NEET Protesters Are Not Withdrawn

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav on Monday warned the state government of a statewide agitation if criminal cases filed against students protesting over the NEET controversy are not withdrawn. He accused the Bihar government of suppressing student voices instead of addressing their concerns.

Speaking to reporters, Tejashwi said the government must immediately revoke all FIRs registered against the protesters and release those who were detained during the demonstrations. He warned that if Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary-led administration failed to act, the opposition would launch a massive public movement across Bihar.

The RJD leader maintained that students protesting against alleged irregularities in the NEET examination were exercising their democratic rights and should not be treated as criminals. He alleged that the government's response had further fuelled public anger and demanded accountability over the handling of the protests.

The warning comes amid continuing political and public debate over the NEET examination issue, which has sparked demonstrations in several parts of the country. In Bihar, the protests led to police action and the registration of cases against several participants, drawing criticism from opposition parties and student groups.

The Bihar government later announced that it would begin withdrawing FIRs and other legal proceedings related to the protests. Authorities also assured that no further punitive action would be taken against eligible protesters and that those detained in connection with the demonstrations would be released.

The government's announcement has eased immediate tensions, but opposition leaders have said they will closely monitor the implementation of the decision. Student organisations have also welcomed the move while reiterating their demand for transparency and fairness in the examination system. The controversy has once again placed education and examination reforms at the centre of Bihar's political discourse, with both the ruling alliance and the opposition expected to continue raising the issue in the coming weeks.
