PM Displayed Great Compassion; His Decision to Forgive Has Been Widely Appreciated, Says BJP's Sanjay Saraogi

Bihar BJP President Sanjay Saraogi on Saturday commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for responding with compassion despite facing offensive remarks directed at him and his late mother during a recent student protest. Calling the Prime Minister's response an example of "a big heart," Saraogi said the decision to forgive those responsible has been widely appreciated across the country. The Bihar BJP chief said Modi chose forgiveness over retaliation even after being personally targeted with abusive language. According to Saraogi, the Prime Minister's approach has earned respect from people across India.

At the same time, he criticized the Congress, alleging that the party is attempting to turn the student movement into a political opportunity instead of focusing on the concerns of students. Saraogi claimed the opposition was using public discontent to further its own agenda and cautioned against politicising student protests. The BJP leader's remarks came a day after Prime Minister Modi addressed the controversy surrounding the demonstration at Jantar Mantar, where some participants allegedly used abusive language against him and his late mother.

In a video shared on Instagram, Modi acknowledged that the incident had upset many people, describing the language used as unacceptable in a civilised society. He said the sight of young people, particularly young women, using such words had deeply disturbed many citizens. However, instead of calling for harsh punishment, the Prime Minister appealed for understanding and guidance. He stressed that young people are capable of making mistakes and should be given an opportunity to learn and reform rather than being permanently judged for their actions.

Modi said his government's efforts have always been focused on securing a better future for the country's youth and urged society to help those who have lost their way instead of pushing them further away. He also argued that legal action, social humiliation, and prolonged court proceedings alone would not solve the problem. Expressing his willingness to forgive those involved, the Prime Minister encouraged society to adopt the same spirit of compassion.

Drawing an analogy, Modi said that when a person's tongue is accidentally bitten by their own teeth, they do not break their teeth because both are part of the same body. In the same way, he said, the youth are an integral part of society and deserve support and guidance rather than rejection. The Prime Minister added that helping young people correct their mistakes may not be easy, but it is a responsibility that society must accept. The controversy follows the registration of an FIR by the Noida Police against a young woman accused of making objectionable remarks about the Prime Minister during a CJP protest over the alleged NEET paper leak.
