Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday praised the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in Parliament, calling it a "watershed moment" in India's pursuit of socio-economic justice, transparency, and inclusive growth. He emphasized that the legislation would particularly benefit marginalized communities who have long been deprived of representation and opportunities.

In a series of posts on X, PM Modi highlighted that for decades, the Waqf system lacked transparency and accountability, which primarily affected Muslim women, poor Muslims, and Pasmanda Muslims. He stated, "The approval of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill and the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill by both Houses of Parliament marks a crucial step toward socio-economic justice, transparency, and inclusive development." He further noted that the new laws would enhance transparency and protect people's rights, ushering in a more modern and socially just framework.

Reaffirming his commitment to the dignity of every citizen, Modi stressed that such reforms are key to building a stronger, more inclusive, and compassionate India. He expressed gratitude to all Members of Parliament who participated in discussions, contributed their insights, and helped refine the legislation. He also acknowledged the valuable inputs from citizens submitted to the Parliamentary committee. "Once again, the significance of extensive debate and dialogue has been reinforced," he remarked. The Rajya Sabha passed the Bill on Thursday night, following the Lok Sabha’s approval a day earlier, despite strong opposition from a united opposition bloc.
