Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during her visit to the city-state to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties, expand investment opportunities and address emerging global economic challenges. According to the Ministry of Finance, Sitharaman met President Tharman at The Istana on Friday. Their discussions centred on advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore and exploring avenues to deepen cooperation between the two countries.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong also hosted Sitharaman for discussions on international economic developments and strategies to manage the ongoing energy crisis. In a post on X, Wong welcomed the Indian finance minister back to Singapore, noting that they had exchanged views on global economic trends and the challenges posed by the energy situation. He added that Sitharaman had shared updates on India's recent developments and emerging opportunities for investment and collaboration.

Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan also welcomed Sitharaman, highlighting the potential for Singaporean businesses to participate in India's long-term economic growth. He expressed hope that her visit would be productive and fruitful. The meetings reflect the shared interest of India and Singapore in expanding economic engagement amid changing global conditions. Their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership provides a framework for cooperation across several sectors, including trade, investment and other areas of mutual interest.

With energy security and global economic uncertainty remaining key concerns for policymakers, the discussions offered an opportunity for both sides to exchange perspectives and explore further cooperation. Officials did not disclose details of any specific investment commitments, proposals or agreements resulting from the meetings.
